Happy Diwali! We have had a very busy two months at school and are so grateful for the generous support the PTA has received this year so far. All of your positivity is helping to make our GHE community stronger each day. In this week's edition of The Falcon Flyer, we would like to tell you a little bit about what teachers and students are doing around the school. Hope you enjoy the upcoming long weekend. Next week kicks off Turkey Trot, our 1st fundraiser of the year run 100% by the school.
The GHE Student Council is made up of two representatives from each 4th and 5th grade class who were elected by their classmates for being respectful, responsible and helpful GHE students who are positive role models for their peers. Together they coordinate service projects, plan the GHE Prevent Bullying Spirit Week, and find creative ways to help make our school a better place to learn and live. Some events they put on are the Veteran's Day Card Campaign and the Turkey Trot Food Drive where they will hand deliver collected goods to Wake Relief in Raleigh.
After a few years hiatus, Student Council was revived by Mrs. Gardner and Mrs. Tew, who co-lead the team. Thank you to staff Mrs. Harrington, Mrs. Burleson, Mrs. Nandi and Mrs. Blasko for voluntarily supporting the students and Student Council.
The Recycling Club at GHE is led by Ms. D’Amico. Every day during the week its members collect recycling bins with things like paper, cans, and plastic bottles from the classrooms. They take the recycling bins to the dumpsters outside and sort them into the correct dumpster. This helps our school be more eco-friendly and makes GHE kids aware of the importance of recycling.
Fifth graders at GHE can participate in the Recycling Club, but at the end of the school year 4th graders will have a chance to learn more about the club and their responsibilities.

Squawks & Community Flocks
We hope you enjoyed the 80 dozen donuts, 12 gallons of juice and lots of coffee with your children during Donuts with Grown Ups. This huge event couldn't have happened without our dynamic hospitality duo, Carianne Davis & Amy Bates, who orchestrated this event daily (along with Carianne's four adorable children). There would be no donuts without our early birds who picked up the donuts at 7am: Suzanne Robottom, Jeremy Cleveland and Tony Davis. We are so grateful to Mario at the locally-owned Dunkin Donuts on Rt. 55 and High House Rd. for throwing in free coffee every day. Thank you to the volunteers for signing up for a slot: Amy Bates, Hannah Beers, Karen Cao, Ewa Chawarski, Jeremy Cleveland, Carianne Davis, Rachel Gill, Steve Gurrslin, Cindy Liu, Rupali Marathe, Jacob Mintz, Lauren Mintz, Margaret Polinvosky, Deepika Ramakrishnan, Suzanne Robottom, Wendy Ruan, and Sowmya Subramaniam.
The Fall Book Fair was a huge success! Mrs. Carrelha earned dozens of books for the GHE media center so kids always have something new to check out. The teachers were so excited to have so many of their wish list items filled and love being able to expand their own classroom libraries. A super huge thanks to Heather Swift for leading this fundraiser and for being there every day, along with Mrs. Carrelha, Kristin Moore, Jennifer Cho and Sapna Parmar. We are so grateful to our parent volunteers for covering slots: Deanna Auerbach, Amy Bates, Hannah Beers, Joan Bramstedt, Lauren Campbell, Ewa Chawarski, Jufang Chen, Katie Dean, Michele Draghici, Dieisha Edwards, Rachel Gill, Yanan Guan, Christina Haisty, Sushma Hanumanusetty, Lauren Jones, Radha Kuppusamy, Terry Martin, Amy Michael, Lauren Mintz, Mariahna Moore, Sujata Nikem, Japal Patel, Margaret Polinkovsky, Deepika Ramakrishnan, Raja Ranganathan, Suzanne Robottom, Kimberly Rost, Vinay Shankarkumar, Holly Sherwin, Jill Snyder, Pavithra Srinivasan and Danni Zhang.
