Falcon Flyer: GHE Curriculum Night

We hope everyone had a restful Labor Day weekend and is ready for the year ahead. We have an exciting September planned for our GHE families!

Parents, did you do your homework?

Don't forget to turn in your Back to School forms if you haven't already done so. The packet provided by your child's teacher contains important information that the school needs for your student. Also, please make sure you go online to order your required classroom resources, buy spirit wear, join the Celebration Book Club and become a member of the PTA.

Several purchases have September 13 deadlines so act now.

Curriculum Night - this Thursday, Sept. 5

This is an important event all parents will not want to miss. Teachers will share class curriculum, routines and expectations for the school year.

Please remember, this evening is for parents/guardians only, please do not bring your children.

Our first PTA general meeting is scheduled conveniently between the two sessions. We'll share our exciting plans for the year and have both new spirit wear and discounted prior year shirts for sale.

Can't wait to see you there!

HURRICANE DORIAN WATCH: Please keep an eye on the PTA Website and WCPSS news in case we need to reschedule this event due to possible hurricane weather conditions later this week. WATCH video update from NC Superintendent Mark Johnson regarding Hurricane Dorian. Please stay safe and keep informed.

Can I help in my child's class?

Want to find out more about what it means to be a room parent? We will hold an information session for room parents soon. Let your child's teacher know if you're interested in becoming a room parent.

Whether helping at a PTA event or in your child's classroom, you must register with WCPSS as a volunteer. Don't forget to head to the GHE Media Center during school hours as this must be done on WCPSS computers. Previous volunteers must reactivate their registration each school year by OCTOBER 30 to avoid being deactivated.

GHE Spirit Wear

Every Friday is Falcon Friday, so break out your Falcon gear! Spirit wear will be available in limited quantities at Curriculum Night and is available for purchase on the PTA website.

To celebrate our school spirit, we will have a surprise treat the last week of each month for the class with the most students in spirit wear OR school colors (green & maroon).

Volunteer Opportunities

The GHE PTA Ice Cream Social, now called Scoop & a Show, is a popular annual event where students, families and teachers can enjoy ice cream sundaes and catch up after a long summer. GHE teachers and staff volunteer to scoop ice cream so we need parent help with setup, cleanup and ticket sales.

After School Enrichment Classes

You still have until Sept. 10 to sign up for Kidz Art classes. This session students will explore the colorful works of Keith Haring & Wayne Thiebaud as well as concepts in comic book illustration, anime, sketching, 3D drawing and much more.

Birthday Blasts

For a $50 donation to the PTA, you can wish your child a Happy Birthday on the digital marquee—guaranteed to bring big smiles on their special day.

What a great turnout for last week's Meet The Teacher event! Thank you so much to Principal Walker and Vice Principal Lombardo and our wonderful PTA volunteers: Laura Bartoli, Amy Bates, Jeremy Cleveland, Jennifer Cho, Andrea Gatt, Lauren Mintz, Mariahna Moore, and Suzanne Robottom for so warmly welcoming members of our GHE family—we loved getting to meet everyone.

Thank you to the following GHE families for copying, stuffing and delivering Back to School packets and supplies: Kristin Moore, Betsy Mercer & Sam Cowen, Kelly, Ivy & Elliott Sours, Lucy Lewis, Sharon Peters, Katherine Parker, Heather Swift, Jeremy Cleveland, Andrea Gatt, Michele Draghici, Lauren Mintz, Suzanne Robottom, Mariahna Moore, and Prasida Ganagam.
