read across america week starts friday

This year the theme for Read Across America is Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers. Mrs. Carrelha, our AMAZING GHE media center specialist, has tons of great activities planned to promote reading and encourage our students to become life-long readers. Classrooms are assigned countries and will decorate doors and read to learn more about their countries. Starting Friday 2/28, a spirit activity is planned each day to celebrate Read Across America week.

A Simple way to help THIS THURSDAY

Mark your calendars for Spirit Night Thursday, February 27 at Ruckus Spirits and Food in Park West Village, Morrisville.

Ruckus is donating 20% of sales for the full day! That means if you have a work luncheon, catering order, or head to lunch or dinner with friends or family, GHE will receive 20 percent.

Head on over for some yummy eats while giving back to the kids.

Don't forget to tell them you're with Green Hope Elementary!

March is Music In Our Schools month across the United States. This will be GHE's 20th year supporting the national initiative to promote music awareness and appreciation by offering two weeks of performances by our own GHE Falcon students and staff.

Any child who is at least in their second year of musical training is encouraged to participate. Please complete the participation form and submit it to Mrs. Small by March 6, 2020. Spots are assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

congratulations, coach G!

GHE PTA is proud to announce Steve Gursslin, better known as Coach G, as our PTA Volunteer of the Year!

Coach G has been teaching at Green Hope since it first opened 20 years ago. He is a valued teacher who loves his work and wants to make GHE an amazing community for all our children. This year he was chair of the PTA's Social Programs Committee creating our new "Scoop and a Show" event. He also led International Walk to School Day, supported Turkey Trot, is part of our School Beautification committee, is co-leading our exciting new Spring Carnival of Lights, and so much more.

Steve goes above and beyond to give our students a well-rounded educational experience. On nights and weekends he lends his personal time to continuous improvement of the school programs, facilities, and community. He always has a positive attitude which motivates everyone around him. We are so lucky to have Coach G on our team!

Coach G will be honored with other Wake County PTA awardees at the Wake County PTA Council's annual "Night of Stars" on April 30th. Please take a moment to say thank you next time you see him or check out his faculty favorites!

SPRING Carnival of Lights

Spring is just around the corner, and that means it almost time for the biggest GHE night of the year—Spring Carnival of Lights! Each Spring we transform GHE into an amazing, fun-filled wonderland! There are games and prizes for kids and a silent auction and raffle baskets to help raise money for the many programs and services the PTA provides to the school.

This year glow-in-the-dark wrist bands will give kids ALL ACCESS to the games and activities. Wrist bands will be sold in advance for $12 or 4/$40. The price will go up to $15 at the door. Pre-sales start March 2.

The Carnival is the PTA's second biggest fundraiser of the year and it takes an enormous effort to pull off. It's a great way to get involved at the school and many hands will make everyone's job a bit easier. We cannot have Carnival without your help. Please volunteer to be a Carnival Helper on Friday, March 20. Any time you can give on the night of carnival will be a greatly appreciated!
